Faculty Evaluation Form for reviewing preliminary exam essays

Exams will be reviewed by the student's advisor and two other TE department faculty.

The criteria for prelim review are:
1. Shows an understanding of the article being reviewed and its main points.
2. Provides a well-reasoned evaluation, grounded in the article.
3. Clarity of communication

  • Is the response comprehensible?
  • Does the student’s use of linguistic conventions (grammar, syntax, organization) and of language enable the reader to follow the argument?

Overall Rating (Indicate one of the following):
  • Prelim requirement fulfilled. No intervention necessary.
  • Prelim requirement fulfilled. Minor issues to be resolved in conversations with advisor.
  • Prelim requirement not fulfilled. Student must re-take prelim in a later semester.
